UN Youth Group to Launch Research Project on AI for Sustainable Development Goals at Web Summit Qatar 2025
Mr. Anam, Founding Director of Climate Cardinals and Youth Group Chairman of the United Nations Association, USA, announced a new research project focusing on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project, launching on March 5th, 2025, will delve into both the positive and negative potential of AI in achieving these goals.
The project will involve a series of 17 virtual dialogue sessions, each dedicated to one of the SDGs. Speakers will include UN staff, Global Goals Ambassadors, Congressional staff, and government officials. The culmination of this research will be a white paper, to be presented at the Global Engagement Summit in New York City later in the year.
The white paper will analyze the positive potential of AI in each SDG area, the negative impacts, and importantly, showcase case studies of youth-led initiatives already leveraging AI for sustainable development. The ultimate aim is to provide the UN with an actionable implementation plan for the “Pact for the Future,” a broad strategy document agreed upon by 193 member states to incorporate technology within the public sector. Mr. Anam emphasized the goal of moving from research to real-world action, hoping to inspire concrete steps towards implementing the findings of the white paper.
