Web Summit Qatar volunteer programme

Frequently asked questions
Application

When are the dates Web Summit Qatar 2024?

The event takes place from February 26-29, 2024.

However, there will be some volunteer shifts taking place in the days prior to the event. You can view the shifts in Bloomerang after you’ve been selected to the programme (you will receive an email reminding you).

Where is the venue?

Web Summit Qatar takes place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) in Doha, Qatar.

What is the minimum age to apply to the Web Summit Qatar volunteer program?

You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer at Web Summit Qatar. All volunteers must bring ID with them in order to collect their accreditation. Any person under the age of 18 will not be granted access to the programme or the event.

I need a visa to enter Qatar. Can Web Summit Qatar help?

Unfortunately, we cannot assist you in obtaining a visa to come to Qatar, nor can we send you an invitation letter. That decision is entirely up to the Qatari government.

What is the application process?

First, let us know of your interest in the volunteer programme here.

In the weeks leading up to the event, you’ll receive an email asking if you are still interested in the programme. You will need to fill out a form on the Bloomerang volunteer platform to confirm your application.

Our team will then begin the selection process. If selected, you will receive another email to choose your shifts.

You must confirm your shift availability to secure your place in the Web Summit Qatar volunteer programme. You will then receive the final information about your role, including logistics for the event.

There are many different roles for volunteers to assist with during the event. Get further information on the volunteer roles on the Bloomerang platform.

Do I get any food/meals during my shifts?

Yes. Every volunteer gets a complimentary meal during their shift. There will also be light snacks available in the volunteer hub during the day.

Is there any travel and accommodation help for volunteers?

No. Web Summit Qatar cannot help with travel and accommodation expenses. These are the responsibility of the individual.

Do I get free days to visit the event?

Can I attend Night Summit?

Yes. You’re welcome to attend Night Summit events, subject to venue capacity. Night Summit is open to all attendees and volunteers on Monday and Tuesday night. For Wednesday, however, access will be granted on a first come first served basis, with a maximum capacity of 2000 people. Details will be provided in your general volunteer handbook.

Please note: Night Summit on Wednesday evening takes place in an over-21s venue.

What should I bring to the event?

Here’s a list of everything you should bring to ensure you’re event-ready:

  • Passport or photo ID
  • Water bottle
  • Mobile device with the Web Summit Qatar and Bloomerang volunteer apps installed
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Casual clothes
  • Rain jacket (weather dependent)
  • Dedication and enthusiasm

What apps do I need to install?

Download the Web Summit Qatar app to access your volunteer accreditation, check out the event schedules and maps, and connect with other attendees and volunteers.

Download the Bloomerang volunteer app to view and select your shifts and to receive all necessary information from the volunteer management team during the event.

How do I get my volunteer accreditation?

In order to receive your volunteer accreditation at check-in, you will need to prove that you are a Web Summit Qatar volunteer.

To do this, you must download the Web Summit Qatar app, log in using your ticket reference and access your QR code. Your ticket reference will be sent to you by email a few days before your shifts begin (after you have been selected and have signed up for your shifts).

Each volunteer QR code is unique and allows you to collect your accreditation when you check in onsite.

What is the dress code for the event?

The dress code for Web Summit Qatar volunteers is comfortable! You will probably be walking around the venue and standing for a prolonged period of time, so it’s important that you bring comfortable shoes and clothes. A volunteer t-shirt will be provided.

You may be asked to bring dark clothing for certain roles.

Check weather conditions and bring a warm layer under your volunteer t-shirt or a rain jacket.

Are there rules I have to follow during the event?

Yes. There are certain rules in place to ensure the smooth running of our volunteer programme. These include:

  1. After you check in to your shift, please wait at the volunteer hub. A member of staff or a volunteer lead will bring you to where you’re supposed to be. The volunteer team will make sure you are where you need to be at the right time.
  2. Please stay in your assigned role. If you need to take a break, speak with your team manager.
  3. As a volunteer, you are a representative of the event. Please behave in a professional manner while on your shift.
  4. Do not ask to take selfies with any speakers while you are on shift. This is strictly forbidden.
  5. If you need to make a call or use your phone, please do so when you are on your break.
  6. Wear your volunteer t-shirt and make sure you wear comfortable footwear.
  7. We ask that you are flexible with our team, and open to changes in your role. Live events can be unpredictable at times, and we appreciate your support.

When you signed up to volunteer at Web Summit Qatar, you agreed to our terms and conditions. Please review them as a reminder of the rules that are in place for volunteers.

After the event

Do I get a participation certificate after the event?

Yes. Once you have completed your shifts, a volunteer certificate will be sent to you in the weeks following the event.
